Mustangs Finish Twelfth at State
Record Top Eight Finishes in Four Events
The Mounds View Mustangs competed in the finals of the Minnesota Swimming & Diving State Championship meet at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, March 2. The Mustangs had seven entries in the final session and scored in all of them to tally 80 points and earn a twelfth place finish. The Mustangs were fifteenth a year ago and this is was their best showing at the State meet since finishing eighth in 2013. Junior Isaac Pan led the way with a top eight finish in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. Junior Will Quackenbush finished in the top eight in the 200-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay team also placed in the top eight. (read more)

Mustangs Advance to Finals in Seven Events
On a snowy, blustery Friday, March 1 evening, when just getting to the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota was a major challenge, the Mustangs certainly made the trip worthwhile. Junior Isaac Pan highlighted an excellent Mustangs’ team performance by setting a new school record in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly. He later topped off his evening as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team, along with senior co-captain Will Goldman, senior Ian Boyles, and junior Will Quackenbush, that also set a new school record. As a team, the Mustangs advanced to Saturday finals in seven of the eight events in which they competed. (read more)
Mustangs Finish Second at 4AA Sections
Qualify for State Meet in Eight Events
The Mounds View Mustangs swam and dived to a second place finish at the Section 4AA championship meet finals on Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23 at Stillwater Junior High. The Mustangs scored 425 points to claim the runner-up trophy for the fourth straight year. Stillwater easily won the championship with a score of 615. The Mustangs were led by juniors Will Quackenbush and Isaac Pan who both qualified in two events for the State meet at the University of Minnesota’s Jean Freeman Aquatic Center on March 1-2. Senior co-captains Will Goldman and Jared Martini each qualified in a single event. In addition, both the Mustangs’ 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams also earned a trip to the State meet. Several Mustangs posted season’s best times in their respective events over the course of the three-day meet that included a preliminary session on Thursday, February 21. (read more)
Mustangs Swim to Second Place at JV Conference
Several Mustangs Record Season’s Best Times
The Mounds View Mustangs participated in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) Junior Varsity (JV) meet on Saturday, February 16 in Stillwater. With the varsity squad cheering them on, the young Mustangs squad of twenty-three swimmers finished second in the top flight that consisted of the first through fourth place teams in the SEC varsity dual meet standings. The Mustangs varsity finished the SEC season in third place with a 5-3 record. The JVs gained valuable experience in this meet and many recorded season’s best times in their events. (read more)
