Annual Awards Banquet Set for Sunday, April 8
The Mustangs swim & dive team, along with family and friends, will ring down the curtain on the 2017-2018 season at their annual Awards Banquet on Sunday, April 8 at the North Oaks Golf Club. The event kicks-off at 11:30 am, followed by brunch. The program will include a recap of the season, individual and team awards, senior farewell speeches, a slide show, and the announcement of the 2018-2019 co-captains. This year’s alumni guest speaker will be Jim Rafter ’11. Jim holds the Mustangs all-time record in both the 50 Free and 100 Back. He captained the 2010-2011 team that won the SEC conference title with a record of 8-0 and won the Section 4AA championship. The Mustangs went on to finish fifth at the State meet where Rafter won the 100 Back and finished second in the 100 Free. He was also a member of the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay teams that both finished fourth. Shortly after the season concluded, the following feature article appeared in the Shoreview Press. New Feature – Minnesota All-Time Top 100
We’re pleased to announce a new website feature – the Minnesota All-Time Top 100. This is a list of the Top 100 State meet performances of all-time, both prelims and finals. There is only one entry per athlete in an individual event, representing the athlete’s fastest time. There are multiple entries for several schools in the relay events. See the sidebar for the link to the list.

Quackenbush Records Top Eight Finishes in Two Events
The Mounds View Mustangs competed in the finals of the Minnesota Swimming & Diving State Championship meet at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, March 3. The Mustangs had five entries in the final session and scored in all of them to tally 51 points and earn a fifteenth place finish. This was the best showing for the Mustangs at the State meet since finishing eighth in 2013. Sophomore Will Quackenbush led the way with a top eight finish in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle, as well as anchoring both Mustang relays. (Read more)

Mustangs Advance to Finals in All Five Events
The Mounds View Mustangs competed in the preliminary session of the Minnesota Swimming and Diving State Championship meet at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota on Friday, March 2. The Mustangs had several excellent performances to advance to the finals on Saturday, March 3 in all five events in which they qualified at the Section 4AA meet the previous weekend. The Mustangs were led by Sophomore Will Quackenbush who qualified for the championship heat on Saturday in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Isaac Pan advanced to the consolation heat on Saturday in the 200-yard individual medley. Both the 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams also advanced to the consolation heat in Saturday’s session. (Read more)

Mustangs Finish Second at 4AA Sections
Quackenbush, Pan & Two Relay Teams Qualify for State Meet
The Mounds View Mustangs swam and dived to a second place finish at the Section 4AA championship meet finals on Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24 at Stillwater Junior High. The Mustangs scored 423 points to claim the runner-up trophy for the third straight year. Stillwater easily won the championship with a score of 571.5 points. The Mustangs were led by sophomores Will Quackenbush and Isaac Pan who both qualified for the State meet at the University of Minnesota’s Jean Freeman Aquatic Center on March 1-3. Both the Mustangs’ 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams also earned a trip to the State meet. Several Mustangs posted season’s best times in their respective events over the course of the three-day meet to cap off their season. (Read more)
Section 4AA Prelims
The Mounds View Mustangs swim team had some excellent performances and recorded many season’s best times at the Section 4AA preliminary meet in Stillwater on Thursday, February 22. Under the section format, the top 16 finishers in each individual event and the top 8 relay teams advance to the finals. The Mustangs qualified 18 individual swimmers and all three relay teams for the finals on Saturday, February 24 at the same venue. The Mustang divers swing into action at 6:10 pm on Friday in Stillwater for a chance to advance to Saturday’s finals.
Mustangs Swim to Third Place at JV Conference
Several Mustangs Record Season’s Best Times
The Mounds View Mustangs participated in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) Junior Varsity (JV) meet on Saturday, February 17 in Stillwater. With the varsity squad cheering them on, the young Mustangs squad of nineteen swimmers finished third in the top flight that consisted of the first through fourth place teams in the SEC varsity dual meet standings. The Mustangs varsity finished the SEC season in second place with a 7-1 record. The JVs gained valuable experience in this meet and many recorded season’s best times in their events. (Read more)
