Mustangs Swim to Third Place at JV Conference

Several Mustangs Record Season’s Best Times

The Mounds View Mustangs participated in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) Junior Varsity (JV) meet on Saturday, February 17 in Stillwater.  With the varsity squad cheering them on, the young Mustangs squad of nineteen swimmers finished third in the top flight that consisted of the first through fourth place teams in the SEC varsity dual meet standings. The Mustangs varsity finished the SEC season in second place with a 7-1 record.  The JVs gained valuable experience in this meet and many recorded season’s best times in their events. (Read more)

Mustangs Wrap-Up Dual Meet Season With Win Over CDH

Mustangs Finish With 7-1 Dual Meet Record  

The Mounds View Mustangs swim & dive team traveled to the University of St. Catherine to face Cretin-Derham Hall on Thursday, February 8.  In their final dual meet of the season, the Mustangs won 8 of 12 events on the program on the way to a 99-84 win over the host Raiders.  The win nailed down a second place finish in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) for the Mustangs, with the only blemish on the record being a loss to Stillwater last month.  Sophomore Will Quackenbush was a double winner for the Mustangs with wins in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Isaac Pan also recorded a pair of wins in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke.  Senior co-captain Quinn Doan won the 100-yard butterfly. The Mustangs also prevailed over the Raiders in all three relay events. (Read more)

Mustangs Edge Forest Lake in Pool Nail-Biter

Mustangs Win Meet in Final Event

The Mounds View Mustangs swim & dive team traveled to Forest Lake on Thursday, February 1st and came away with a thrilling 95-91 victory.  The Mustangs won 7 of 12 events on the program and, despite the Rangers’ superior depth, were able to head home with the win. Sophomore Isaac Pan was a double winner for the Mustangs with top finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke.  Junior Will Goldman won the 50-yard freestyle and sophomore Will Quackenbush captured first in the 500-yard freestyle.  One of the keys to the Mustang victory was winning all three relay events, including the crucial last event on which the meet outcome ultimately hinged.  The win gives the Mustangs a 6-1 record in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) with one dual meet remaining. Mustangs Finish Eighth at True Team State

Several Athletes Record Season’s Best Performances

The Mounds View Mustangs competed at the True Team State swim and dive meet on Wednesday, January 24 at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota.  The Mustangs made the most of their opportunity and, paced by a number of season’s best performances by several athletes, finished eighth among the field of twelve top Class AA teams from across the state.  The Mustangs were led by the trio of junior Will Goldman and sophomores Will Quackenbush and Isaac Pan, all of whom had a pair of “top 16” finishes.  Senior co-captain Quinn Doan also recorded a “top 16” finish.  The Mustangs also had “top 16” finishes in all three relay events.(Read more)

Mustangs Swim to Second at True Team Sections

Mustangs Qualify for True Team State Meet as Wild Card

The Mounds View Mustangs swam and dived to a second-place finish at the Section 4AA True Team section meet on Saturday, January 20 at Stillwater Junior High School.  The host Stillwater Ponies won the five-team meet with 974 points, while the runner-up Mustangs tallied 775 points. The Mustangs’ performance was a strong one, with several season’s best times, and earned them an invitation to the True Team State meet as a wild card entry. The meet will be held at the University of Minnesota’s Jean Freeman Aquatic Center on Wednesday, January 24, beginning at 6:00 pm. (Read more)
